After breakfast we drove three and half hours from Sedona to Page. On our way out of Sedona we stopped at the beautiful Chapel of the Holy Cross, a small Catholic chapel built into the rock face. Unfortunately it was closed and we didn't get to go inside but we did get to explore the outside and take in the awe-inspiring views. You can see a Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration in the design - although he didn't ultimately build it, he was involved in its initial planning in 1932. The chapel was finished over 30 years later in 1956. As an added bonus we met a man with an adorable Corgi (in case she hasn't mentioned it to you, Emerson LOVES Corgis!).
The somewhat harrowing drive up the steep, winding road leading out of Sedona took us through the surprisingly lush Coconino National Forrest. We left the forrest and emerged into a strange barren landscape. This otherworldly scenery provided the backdrop for the rest of our drive to Tatooine...I mean Page. | |
